Living room makeover- Fireplace before and after

When we moved in the fireplace was made up of an old gas fire with a modern white surround... to say it was hideous is an understatement!so we set about ripping it out and after a dust filled house and old plaster covering the floor we found there was actually a decent size fireplace with a pretty arch detail. We decided to treat and paint the brick white to give a cleaner appearance that was more in keeping with the room

I wanted to create a little reading nook to the right of the fireplace so George added some chunky oak floating shelves and I hunted down the perfect accessories! I am so pleased with how the fireplace looks now compared to how it did before! It has completely opened up the room and created a real focal point. At the moment I have added a terrarium and plants but eventually we want to restore an old wood burner for the winter and have that installed. We created a hearth by building up a plinth and adding grey slate to match our colour palette.

I love to mix textures and pattern so I created some of my own artwork which you can see in more detail here and also the turquoise marble print cushion with pom pom edging which is a little look into the home ware collection I am designing!

I have been lusting over this chair that I had found trailing through pinterest and eventually found this beautiful turquoise circle chair in the range, not only is it perfect but it was super cheap at only £40! I think it is actually a garden chair but it is exactly what I have been looking for as the open design makes the chair appear smaller and opens up the space. The large floor lamp is also a statement piece and works perfectly as a reading lamp and makes the area look extra cosy but also adds style.

I hope you love the transformation as much as I do, I want to share a shelf styling post soon too as I am constantly changing it up to display more artwork and pretty books.
